CUBA

NIKITA KHRUSHCHEV

He was born in April 17th, 1894 to a miner in Kalinovka and died on September 11th, 1971.

was a leader of the Soviet Union, serving as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964, following the death of Joseph Stalin.
He has a good connection with the USA. He led a Cuban missile crisis in 1962.

FIDEL CASTRO

Fidel Alejando Castro was born August 13th , 1926 near Mayari, Cuba.

In 1952 he ran for elections to the Cuban House of Representatives, but the elections were never carried.

Castro assembled a small force and attacked the Moncada Army Barracks in Santiago de Cuba on July 26. Castro was captured and sentenced to fifteen years in prison.

Castro immediately went into exile in Mexico where he began to train a group of revolutionaries called the 26th of July Movement. In December 1956, Castro's forces invaded Cuba.

Shortly after Castro took control of the government, relations with the United States declined and made Kennedy angry. He tried to invade Cuba but the invasion failed and made Castro wary of another U.S. attempt. Consequently, when Khrushchev offered to place nuclear missiles in Cuba, he agreed. Then the USSR left Cuba alone.

Castro remained in the power until February 2008. He was one of the longest dictators in Latinamerican history.

JOHN F. KENNEDY

He was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on May 29, 1917.

He studied law in Harvard.

Kennedy joinedthe U.S. navy just before they entered to WWII.

In 1946, Kennedy ran successfully for a Boston-based seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was then reelected in 1948 and 1950. In 1952, Kennedy ran and won a seat in the Senate. Kennedy was a relatively ineffectual senator.

In 1960, Kennedy put together a well financed, highly organized presidential campaign. Kennedy defeated Nixon by fewer than 115,000 popular votes, but lacked a reliable majority in congress. One of Kennedy's most successful programs was the U.S. Peace Corps, which sent thousands of Americans abroad to help people in developing nations.

For President Kennedy, the Cuban Missile Crisis began in the morning of October 16. He was betrayed by the Soviet Union because they told him they wouldn't place missiles in Cuba.

He was looking for a peaceful end until October 28 when Khrushchev agreed to the American proposal to end the crisis.

He was assassinated in November 22nd, 1963.
