OSAMA BIN LADEN


He was born on March 10th, 1957.

His first organization was named MAK (Maktab al-Khidamat) in 1979 and is also founder of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda, best known for the September 11 attacks on the United States and is also the FBI's most wanted person in the world.


Bin Laden and fellow Al-Qaeda leaders are believed to be hiding in the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

NICARAGUA/EL SALVADOR






RONALD REAGAN



(February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004)



He was the 40th president of the United States of America.



Reagan studied filmmaking, he made 52 films.



Originally a member of the Democratic Party, he switched to the Republican Party in 1962. He was defeated in his run for the Republican presidential nomination in 1968 as well as 1976, but won both the nomination and election in 1980.



His supply-side economic policies, dubbed "Reaganomics," advocated reduced business regulation, controlling inflation, reducing growth in government spending, and spurring economic growth through tax cuts.



He was shot but could survive. He was reelected in 1984.



In his second period he bombed Lybia and called the USSR an "evil empire".
Reagan left office in 1989. In 1994, the former president disclosed that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease earlier in the year; he died ten years later at the age of 93.










SANDINISTAS AND CONTRAS


The Sandinista National Liberation Front (Spanish: Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional, or FSLN) is a socialist political party in Nicaragua.

The party is named after Augusto César Sandino who led the Nicaraguan resistance against the United States occupation of Nicaragua in the 1930s.



The Contras is a label given to the various rebel groups opposing Nicaragua's FSLN (Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional) Sandinista Junta of National Reconstruction government following the July 1979 overthrow of Anastasio Somoza Debayle. Although the Contra movement included a number of separate groups, with different aims and little ideological unity, the Nicaraguan Democratic Force (FDN) emerged as by far the largest. In 1987, virtually all Contra organizations were united, at least nominally, into the Nicaraguan Resistance.
















CHILE















AUGUSTO PINOCHET








He was born the 25th of November, 1915; and died on December 10th 2006.




He was a Chilean army general and head of state. He was the Commander in Chief of the Chilean army from 1973 to 1998, President of the Government Junta of Chile from 1973 to 1981 and President of Chile from 1974 until the return of democratic rule in 1990.




He became president by fighting against Allende's government. When he wanted to be reelected, people voted against him and lost the elections, butin 1990 he became president again until he decided to tstay as a Senator for life.
















SALVADOR ALLENDE






He was born in June 26th, 1908 and died September 11th, 1973.



He was a socialist president of Chile from November 4, 1970 until September 11, 1973.He was a physician and the first democratically elected Marxist socialist to become president of a state in America.
He always helped the low class and was mostly trying to demonstrate that Socialists could love in peace.











RICHARD NIXON


He was born in January 9th , 1913 and died in April 22nd, 1994.

He was the 37th president of the United States.

He was elected in 1946 as a Republican to the House of Representatives representing California's 12th Congressional district, and in 1950 to the United States Senate.

Nixon announced his withdrawal from politics after losing the presidential election in 1960 and the California gubernatorial election in 1962. However, in 1968, Nixon was elected president of the United States.
He was president when the Vietnam War started and he wanted secret weapons until he decided to negotiate a ceasefire with North Vietnam.

He made very good economic movements and was reelected in 1972 until he resigned in 1974 because of economic difficulties.

He died because of a storke at the age of 81.















VIETNAM













HO CHI MINH




He was born in May 19, 1890 in Vietnam.


was a Vietnamese Communist revolutionary and statesman who was prime minister of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.


Ho led the Viet Minh independence movement from 1941 onward, establishing the communist-governed Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945 and defeating the French Union.


The former capital of South Vietnam, Saigon, after the Fall of Saigon, was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in his honor.





















THE DOMINO THEORY


The domino theory was a foreign policy theory during the 1950s to 1980s, promoted at times by the government of the United States, that speculated that if one land in a region came under the influence of communism, then the surrounding countries would follow in a domino effect.

CUBA









NIKITA KHRUSHCHEV








He was born in April 17th, 1894 to a miner in Kalinovka and died on September 11th, 1971.




was a leader of the Soviet Union, serving as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964, following the death of Joseph Stalin.
He has a good connection with the USA. He led a Cuban missile crisis in 1962.








FIDEL CASTRO










Fidel Alejando Castro was born August 13th , 1926 near Mayari, Cuba.





In 1952 he ran for elections to the Cuban House of Representatives, but the elections were never carried.





Castro assembled a small force and attacked the Moncada Army Barracks in Santiago de Cuba on July 26. Castro was captured and sentenced to fifteen years in prison.





Castro immediately went into exile in Mexico where he began to train a group of revolutionaries called the 26th of July Movement. In December 1956, Castro's forces invaded Cuba.





Shortly after Castro took control of the government, relations with the United States declined and made Kennedy angry. He tried to invade Cuba but the invasion failed and made Castro wary of another U.S. attempt. Consequently, when Khrushchev offered to place nuclear missiles in Cuba, he agreed. Then the USSR left Cuba alone.





Castro remained in the power until February 2008. He was one of the longest dictators in Latinamerican history.















JOHN F. KENNEDY


He was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on May 29, 1917.


He studied law in Harvard.


Kennedy joinedthe U.S. navy just before they entered to WWII.


In 1946, Kennedy ran successfully for a Boston-based seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was then reelected in 1948 and 1950. In 1952, Kennedy ran and won a seat in the Senate. Kennedy was a relatively ineffectual senator.


In 1960, Kennedy put together a well financed, highly organized presidential campaign. Kennedy defeated Nixon by fewer than 115,000 popular votes, but lacked a reliable majority in congress. One of Kennedy's most successful programs was the U.S. Peace Corps, which sent thousands of Americans abroad to help people in developing nations.


For President Kennedy, the Cuban Missile Crisis began in the morning of October 16. He was betrayed by the Soviet Union because they told him they wouldn't place missiles in Cuba.


He was looking for a peaceful end until October 28 when Khrushchev agreed to the American proposal to end the crisis.


He was assassinated in November 22nd, 1963.

JACOBO ARBENZ CARLOS CASTILLO ARMAS CIA






JACOBO ARBENZ


He was born in Guatemala on September 14, 1913. He joined the army and graduated on 1935. He joined an Academy in Guatemala on 1937, he was a teacher there. In 1944 a bunch of teacheres made a strike, asking for more money. Lots of them were killed incluiding the leader. A few days later more than 300 teachers, doctors, lawyers, etc. demanded that the demonstrators' actions were legitimate.


Arbenz and Arana made a military rebelion, they won. Arbenz and Arana made a new constitution. In which they made men and women equal, racial discrimination was declared a crime, higher education was free of governmental control, private monopolies were banned, workers were assured a forty-hour week, payment in coupons was forbidden, and labour unions were legalized. He died on January 27, 1971 in Mexico City


CARLOS CASTILLO ARMAS


Carlos Castillo Armas (November 4, 1914 – July 26, 1957) was president of Guatemala from July 8, 1954 until his assassination in 1957


He made an invasion in 1954 to free Guatemala from the Government of Arbenz.




CIA


Is a civilian intelligence agency of the United States government. It is the successor of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) formed, during World War II, to coordinate espionage activities between the branches of the US military services.


When WWII finished, this organization was eliminated and the problems they carried were passed to State and War Departments. In 1947 President Truman felt tat he needed an organization that will take care of the security of the people. It was called CIA.




Arbenz, Armas, and the CIA


The Latin American Country of Guatemala held the elections in 1953, Jacobo Arbenz was the ELECTED president, he was a socialist ideas and the Kremlin already saw a potential base just a country away from EEUU also the Kremlin saw an expansion to Mexico.
As the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) noticed the presented a plan to the White house, where a coupe d’état from the Coronel Carlos Castillo Armas could be supported by the CIA so Arbenz would be out of power and Guatemala could return to Capitalism.
Arbenz started to privatize US enter price and in June 18, 1950 the CIA planed “a liberation army” of 400 revels to defeated Arbenz trained by the CIA.
The CIA started operation PB HISTORY to prove Armenz a communist puppet from the Kremlin.
